I'm hesitant to test more, in case I waste more of my data, but I could also try hooking the Xi6 up via ethernet to my network, or using some kind of third-party MoCa bridge from Coax to Ethernet (this hasn't worked yet). I do see other related issues that were similar (Xi6 boxes not working with the Comcast modem in Bridge mode), but I was wondering if I could just get some clarification as to whether or not the Xi6 is causing my problem (The box definitely shows TV in both setups, but my data usage only seems to go up with one of them), and if there's an easy-fix that doesn't involve giving the box back altogether, or getting some other coax-enabled box. I asked to see if another box, with a coax connection, could be provided for me instead (I have an outlet behind my Xi6s anticipated location), but I was told that wasn't possible. I reached out to Xfinity Internet Support by telephone today (Nov 6), to ask if it's possible the Xi6 box, with access to the internet via WiFi, but with the provided modem in bridge mode, might try to just get "cable over the internet", or have its data usage on the coax line not omitted from the overall usage (I'm not sure how this works), but the person I called did not seem to know if this was an expected failure mode of the Xi6 over WiFi, but not the magic-WiFi/"MoCa" provided by the gateway. I have since disabled my gateway/AP, and gone back to the Xfinity one, using my same devices (few desktops, phones, etc), and my data usage has once again normalized (~5-10gb a day), leading me to believe something about the box, with the modem placed in bridge mode, is the cause. I did some reading, and variously encountered information that led me to believe that this may be because, when the modem is placed in bridge mode, it's MoCa network goes down, and this is an essential part of the communication with the Xi6 box (The Xi6 box is described in the Arris UI as being connected via MoCa). On or about Nov 1st or 2nd, I setup my Unifi stack and put the modem in bridge mode, and everything seemed to be working.Īfter connecting my Xi6 box to my AP and using it for some light cable watching (no streaming), I noticed it was continuously talking a lot on the network, and my month's internet usage shot up roughly 150-175GB over a few days. ![]() Over the remainder of the month, I hadn't had a chance to setup my equipment, and was out of town, so I just used the provided modem. 22), I mentioned to the tech that I wanted to run my modem in bridge mode, as I had a Ubiquiti stack, and he assured me that it should be fine to do that.
